Animal Control
Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council is the governing body for the community Animal Management Local Laws and Animal Management Local Laws, and Animal Management Subordinate Laws.
These Animal Management Laws are regulated and monitored by the Council compliance team; the Quality & Compliance Manager, the Animal Management Officer and the Compliance Officer.
Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council recognises that pets play a role in the community by contributing to the wellbeing of people; and also providing companionship for many people.
Council considers it essential to effectively manage domestic animals to enable pets and people to live together harmoniously. We recognise our important role in facilitating and promoting responsible pet ownership, public safety and community wellbeing across the areas where we all live, work an play.
Council encourages the community to comply with the following:
- Register your pets
- Keep your pets in appropriate enclosures
- Put up signage for dangerous animals
- Register dangerous animals
Council also encourages the community to:
- Access the monthly Vet visits and
- Contact the Animal Management Officer for any concerns regarding your pets

Pet Ownership Laws:
If you own a pet, you are legally obliged under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 to provide 'appropriate care' for it by providing for it needs.
You also have a responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone in the community through responsible pet ownership.
If you have a cat or dog, you are also legally obliged to meet all conditions under the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
